Fishing Across Scotland by Motorhome

There aren’t many hobbies that manage to combine peaceful surroundings, the best nature has to offer, and a chance for you to have some quiet reflection. Fishing is one of those. Chances are you, or someone you know, is keen on fishing, but as we know it’s a hobby that requires quite a bit of time and even more patience. Scotland as you might imagine, is one of the world’s top destinations for freshwater fishing and sea angling, with top-class fishing facilities available across the country throughout the year. It doesn’t matter what your current skill level is, as many businesses offer lessons for beginners and additional tuition for those who feel they’re slightly out of practice.

Plan Your Fishing Holiday and Travel in a Luxury Motorhome

If you’re chasing the ‘king of fish’, the Atlantic salmon, or you prefer the hard fighting monster pike or even a giant common skate, you’ve a chance of catching them all on a dedicated fishing holiday touring Scotland. Travel in style and you and your family or companions will discover a tremendous variety of species when fishing in the hundreds of rivers and lochs around Scotland. From beautiful Highland rivers to secluded island lochs, there are excellent salmon, trout and coarse fishing opportunities in some of the most picturesque areas the country has to offer. Not to mention the quality of the fresh invigorating air.

After a day’s patience has been rewarded by a big catch, you can cook it on your portable BBQ, and then allow your meal to digest whilst relaxing in comfort in our luxurious motorhome. Later whilst taking in the sights and sounds as you move to the next destination, you can reflect on your day’s endeavours and return suitably refreshed, after a peaceful night’s sleep, to a new fishing destination.

Scotland Has Endless Fishing Opportunities

From the famous River Tweed in the Scottish Borders to Loch Awe in Argyll, you’ll very easily become totally immersed in the finest of Scottish landscapes. You might even be lucky enough to have an entire water course to yourself. So get your waders, safety goggles and hats on and get waist deep in the water to cast your line. It’s handy to know exactly what type of fish you’re expecting to catch, as different species occupy different lochs. From pike on Loch Lomond, salmon on the Tweed, The Tay and The Don, and wild brown trout in many other lochs, Scotland offers a huge variety of fishing for the seasoned veteran to the enthusiastic beginner. It’s always useful to learn in the water from friendly ghillies and guides who’ll happily share pointers and advise on prime fishing spots.

It’s worth pointing out that rainbow trout aren’t native to Scotland and they don’t breed in our lochs or rivers. Most fishing on lochs stocked with rainbow trout is from a boat. There are a huge number of such lochs; many of them in the central belt of Scotland, near Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and Perth. The quality of these fisheries varies. The best ones offer excellent fishing opportunities for large numbers of big, hard-fighting fish. We do have many pike lochs though. In these lochs the pike population dominates the trout, so it tends to be the case that the lochs do not fish so well for trout. As a general rule; the larger the loch, the larger the pike. The fishing itself is undertaken by spinning or with dead baits from the shore or from a boat.

Sea Angling

If you prefer sea fishing then Scotland’s long and rugged coastline provides fabulous angling opportunities for both boat and shore anglers. You’ll also find many quality charters available to take you in search of your next great catch. There are numerous species offshore but the skate, cod and beagle shark fishing off the west coast are a favourite with visitors and locals alike.
